Protect Maine continues its work for lobstermen and women to protect the Maine coast from Industrial Scale Aquaculture. We couldn’t do this work without support from all of you. We are adding folks who have gone the extra mile, who have worked with Protect Maine in all kinds of different ways. We call this page our “Champions” Page and we are pointing to some of the extraordinary individuals who are willing to stand up to Industrial Scale Aquaculture. Champion of Science, The Shaw Institute

Protect Maine's Science Champion is the Shaw Institute in Blue Hill, Maine. The internationally recognized organization has been transformatively led by Dr.  Charles Rolsky, the Executive Director and Senior Research Scientist.  Shaw concentrates on coastal monitoring, plastic pollution, PFAS analysis, marine mammal health and more, ultimately connecting planetary health to human health and has worked with Protect Maine around those issues. Protect Maine is pleased to partner with Shaw Institute as an unbiased and unwavering partner that prizes scientific research above politics in all its endeavors.

Champion of Transparency, Carrie Peabody

Protect Maine’s Champion of Transparency is Carrie Peabody. Carrie is a resident of Jonesport, Maine and her husband makes his living in the lobster fishery. Carrie is passionate about getting answers and finding out information that better informs the citizenry about how decisions are made. She is an advocate for her community and all those who make their living along the Maine Coast.

Champion of the Lobster Industry, Jason Faulkingham

Jason is a partner with Protect Maine’s Fishing Heritage Foundation. He has been a strong supporter of stopping industrial scale aquaculture in his hometown of Beals, as it relates to the farm raised salmon die off this summer. Jason has gone out of his way to support a reasonable approach to aquaculture and to call out industrial scale aquaculture.

Champion of the Environment, Conservation Law Foundation

Protect Maine’s Fishing Heritage Foundation choose Conservation Law Foundation as its Champion of the Environment. While CLF and PMFHF don’t always agree on everything, Protect Maine supports CLF’s significant work around industrial scale aquaculture in Maine. This work will benefit all those who work, recreate, and make a living on the coast of Maine.  In particular, the lobstering community who has reached out to  Protect Maine for the last several years, sharing their concerns about net pen salmon’s impact on their future.
